Christmas in Isaan Thailand 2011.

Sorry to regular readers as I have lost motivation to write as much as I used to. Many times I have sat in front of the computer with plans to rant and rave or share something about my ordinary life, but end up doing something else. I wish all readers who read regularly or accidentally stumble upon Isaan Style a happy 2012 and may it be whatever you hope or wish for.

I had complained the other day about my decorations and lights going missing, but my star for the top of the tree returned as did the reindeers. But that was it and I could be bothered asking about all the other things. Nong Ja, she isn’t into wearing girlie clothes but we bought her a nice dress from the Thai cartoon movie Khan Kluay and she happily wore it to the temple for Father’s Day the other weekend

Well not a lot to report as we run into Christmas. I do have a funny story to do with Christmas but to that in a minute.

The Giant Krabak Tree

I’ve been a way for a while, but here I am with a new travel report. I planned for several months to visit Taksin Maharat National Park (named after a former king of Thailand) in Tak province where the Giant Krabak Tree is growing. Some previous research told me that the Giant Krabak tree (anisoptera costata) is a species of plant of the dipterocarpacease family.

just a beach hut i was staying in for a while for £6 a night. it was the only resort (about 40 huts) on the whole beach which stretched for about a mile. the toilets were pretty basic and the showers were just a bucket of water over your head. still one of the best places i have ever stayed.

Christmas at a Thai School, Isaan Thailand.

Our school is a Catholic school, so we are very lucky to celebrate Christmas here in Thailand. Most Thais don’t worry about Christmas as New Years Eve is the big event. Thais refer to it as ‘countdown’ and will often ask, ‘where are you going for countdown?’ The great thing about being at my school is the break we get each Christmas, this year it is 10 days. The majority of schools study on the 25th if it falls on a weekday.

The Sage Trees in Bangkok General Post Office

This is the image of a young Mimusops Elengi tree in front of the Bangkok General Post Office. This tree is widely known as Spanish Cherry.In Thai it is called Phikun. The flower of the tree has long lasting fragrance, the garlands made of the small star like flowers last for years.

Walk in a Nipa Palm Forest

Samut Prakan is the most densely populated province in Thailand. In the city it is a bit like a concrete jungle which is so different to what it must have looked like a hundred or so years ago. I like using Google Earth to find new and potentially interesting areas in my area that are worth exploring

Numbers

I been busy, that’s all I can say for not updating my blog. It’s been more then a month and I’ve ventured into unknown territory and learned much more about Thailand then I ever could. Those I shall write along the way but today, I bring to you numbers.
