Monkey Festival in Lopburi

One of the most popular festivals in the central region of Thailand is the Monkey Festival held annually in Lopburi. The city is about 150 kms north-east of Bangkok and is a convenient stopover on the northern railway line to Chiang Mai. The iconic Khmer ruin in this city is Prang Sam Yot, which was originally a Hindu shrine.

A Few Thailand Boats

Three different boats seen during a February 2011 visit to Thailand. The first is a high-speed ferry that goes racing down the narrow canals in Bangkok. The canal is Khlong San Sap, lat/long 13.749473, 100.528722, which is just behind Jim Thompson's House (a major tourist attraction). The second is a family-sized longtail boat (the equivalent of a minivan?) that was on the river in Ayutthaya, lat/long 14.35484, 100.58121, not far from the train station

Thai teen received S$250k donation from Red Cross - 15Jun2011

SINGAPORE - As she celebrates her 15th birthday today, Thai teenager Peneakchanasak Nitcharee would be delighted to know that she will be receiving a generous donation from the Singapore Red Cross. The charity organisation released a statement today announcing that it would be donating $250000 to Nitcharee - better known as Nong Tan - for her medical rehabilitation expenses. The money was donated by a group of anonymous Singaporean donors.
