Outrage Again at Thai Students for Their Ignorance.

Reading the papers online today and “ the big ” story is of some Thai students who dressed up in Nazi uniforms for their sports day. In Thailand, sport days are huge. They take precedence over academics, well actually everything else takes precedence over learning, competitions, dancing, watching some touts pitch a promotion for some company selling products laced full of sugar, but this is Thailand.

Very Bad Trip 2 - full movie online part 1 of 17
Stu is getting married. Along with Doug, Phil, and his soon-to-be brother-in-law Teddy, he regretfully invites Alan to Thailand for the wedding. After a quiet night on the beach with a beer and toasting marshmallows by the camp fire, Stu, Alan and Phil wake up in a seedy apartment in Bangkok.

Thais Questioning the Education System in Thailand.

Today I was reading another very well written column in The Bangkok Post about Thai education. I don’t claim to be a qualified teacher, never have and never will as I do not have a degree in education. I like many other foreign nationals are like this, with degrees in other fields, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) certificates and so on. Many of us may not be a perfect teacher, and we make mistakes, but I am sure even super teachers do, but I do hope that the majority of us foreign teachers try their best for the kids they are meant to be educating

Thai Students and their Teachers

All of the students at my school took part in the annual Wai Khru Ceremony today. The students presented their teachers with flowers and said “thank you” to them for giving them knowledge. In return, the teachers gave them a blessing which the students believe will give them good luck for the coming academic year. The flowers given to the teachers are symbolic

Part 2. Why I Changed Schools, Isaan Thailand.

I was going to write a few parts of my leaving my last school, Assumption College Ubon Ratchathani but really cannot be bothered going over all the small things that built up and up. If you can be bothered part 1 is here . I am writing this second instalment as I ran into a group of parents the other day; these are parents of students I used to teach many years ago. I taught them in primary 1 but now they would be primary 4 or 5.

Teacher Qualifications, Cheering, Paperwork, Casino and Holiday, Isaan Thailand.

Well it has been a while since updating, not a lot has been happening really. I have been spending plenty of time with my niece and Miss Noot as well. We are coming into what I call the “silly season” as we have so many things happening at the school that we hardly seem to teach this last semester

Having Bad Luck? Blame it on the Plants!

After a string of bad luck, the Thai government has decided that the best way to bring about national reconciliation in Thailand is to move around some furniture and potted plants at Government House. I don’t want to belittle the beliefs of the people in government, but wouldn’t it be better if they paid a little less attention to feng shui and more to the hard work of solving the problems that the country is and has been facing for the last four years or so? Here is the news according to MCOT: “The Thai government has readjusted its feng shui at Government House according to Chinese cosmological understandings to enhance luck and prosperity as well as to create peacefulness. Six potted plants of one species were placed on the lawn in front of the Thai Ku Fah Building, opposite its entrance, where Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva enters the Government House compound

Respect for Thai Teachers Ceremony

The most important event to be held at Sriwittayapaknam School is the annual Wai Kru Ceremony. Like other schools around the country this always takes place towards the start of the new academic year and always on a Thursday. The students pay respect to their teachers by presenting them with flowers and going down onto the floor to do a krab which is the most respectful way to show respect. The students hope to gain merit and good fortune for the coming year

Spiders and Teaching English, Isaan Thailand.

The other day at school I arrived early as per usual and directly opposite our office door was this spider that had weaved a web that looked like a perfect X. The spider had weaved the usual web which was hardly visible as the X shape stood out so clearly. I have never seen a web like this before and have no idea the kind of spider it is and if this is the typical web it usually creates. Maybe a spider person can inform us all

Christmas at a Thai School, Part 2 Isaan Thailand.

The other week we had a Christmas day celebration at our school and you can read part 1 here . Here our leader Miss B, was posing in front of the stage. She was going to be the master of ceremonies for the day. These are some of our kindergarten teachers; they were selling these little lantern looking things their small students had made.

Christmas at a Thai School, Isaan Thailand.

Our school is a Catholic school, so we are very lucky to celebrate Christmas here in Thailand. Most Thais don’t worry about Christmas as New Years Eve is the big event. Thais refer to it as ‘countdown’ and will often ask, ‘where are you going for countdown?’ The great thing about being at my school is the break we get each Christmas, this year it is 10 days. The majority of schools study on the 25th if it falls on a weekday.

Hit by a Lotus Flower

It is very hot standing in the sun where it is very crowded. Luckily I am standing in a place where it has less people plus I am standing in the front of those people. The bridge, where I am standing, is made from wood and I am not sure that it will be strong enough for a lot of people like this or not. I am a little scared that it might break and I will fall down into the water
