The most important event to be held at Sriwittayapaknam School is the annual Wai Kru Ceremony. Like other schools around the country this always takes place towards the start of the new academic year and always on a Thursday. The students pay respect to their teachers by presenting them with flowers and going down onto the floor to do a krab which is the most respectful way to show respect. The students hope to gain merit and good fortune for the coming year

The other day at school I arrived early as per usual and directly opposite our office door was this spider that had weaved a web that looked like a perfect X. The spider had weaved the usual web which was hardly visible as the X shape stood out so clearly. I have never seen a web like this before and have no idea the kind of spider it is and if this is the typical web it usually creates. Maybe a spider person can inform us all
Wow, this week at school has been a total waste of time being there. We have our biggest night of the entire school year happening this weekend. It is deemed a family night where parents sit, eat and watch their child or children put on a dancing spectacular

Way back on the 24th of December, we had a Christmas day celebration. I have already written two parts to the day.

The other week we had a Christmas day celebration at our school and you can read part 1 here . Here our leader Miss B, was posing in front of the stage. She was going to be the master of ceremonies for the day. These are some of our kindergarten teachers; they were selling these little lantern looking things their small students had made.

Here in Thailand we have just celebrated Loy Kratong Festival, I have written a more in depth post about what this festival means and you can read about this here if you like. The traditional reason for celebrating this festival is to thank the Goddess of the Waters, Mae Khong Kha, asking for forgiveness for dirtying and polluting the waters, also asking for plenty of water for crops to produce a bountiful of harvests. Others use it as a time for some spiritual cleansing, to send away bad luck and start the year afresh. You can read more at the above link on my post from 2007 and also see pictures of some large Kratongs.
I love the technology of the internet. I wrote a while back about another tattoo I had and then went into why I had this tattoo done. I had a reader from New Zealand a girl called Shihan write a response to the post. You can read the original post called a new tattoo and some boring history

This morning I visited Ancient Siam (formerly Ancient City) in Samut Prakan for their annual Mother’s Day activity. Over the last four or five years, the management have been organizing many different kinds of events at the park during all major holidays. Today is a public holiday for H.M. The Queen’s birthday
I haven’t posted for a few days as it has been hectic at work as we have exams next week and this means a lot of revision for the students. This then turns into too much marking.
There has been some interesting news late today. I had to teach last period and when I walked into the teacher’s room there was a flurry of conversation going on.

On Friday we had a ceremony in the morning to celebrate Sunthorn Phu Day. Sunthorn Phu is considered one of Thailand’s greatest poets. I wrote a more in depth post on this day and about this man in a blog 2 years ago and can read that by clicking here if you want to know more about the man.

I blogged the other day, about how I reward my students who make an extra effort in class. The students who do small things that make them stand out from the rest. This can be a number of things but a few students have been turning their workbooks into colouring books. Some students have been going beyond anything I expected; these are students in primary 5 or 11 years of age.
Bangkok Post : In a week of relatively calm politics, you must have heard news about a Thai student who supposedly won an award at the Cannes Film Festival (which ended last Sunday, and which I attended). It was reported in both Thai- and English-language newspapers (though not the one you’re holding) that Pornpatchaya Supannarat was a “winner at Cannes” in the student film section. The 24-year-old Pornpatchaya went on TV Channel 3 - twice - to talk about her short film; that it was officially selected by, and even won an award at, the Cannes Film Festival, considered the world’s most prestigious cine-event
