The closest I have been to celebrating a Christmas in Thailand are the Christmas lights and the big trees in the shopping malls. If we are lucky, like this year, we might also have a cold wind which will add to the illusion that it is Christmas. But none of this is real as the majority of Thai people are Buddhists and they are just celebrating for fun

Special Report for weekly Andaman News NBT TV (VHF dial) at 8.30am broadcast to Phang Nga, Krabi & Phuket provinces Thursday 12th May, 2011 & at 7pm on FM 108 Mazz Radio & later on thainews.prd.go.th & www.YouTube.com/AndamanNews Send comments to AndamanNews@yahoo.com Khao Khad view point is a modest location with 360 degree panoramic views of what is possibly the finest scenery on the whole island of Phuket. Despite being well known by locals, many visitors do not go up to visit it as they blissfully unaware of what view they will see. Just recently, the local government of Wichit Municipality has improved the facility on the hill top and its access, to promote it as a new tourist site. It started by upgrading the road, putting signs up, installing more lighting as well as having security personnel to ensure tourist safety 24 hours a day.
Pattaya Beach borders the center of the city and ranges along the Beach Road south to the Phra Tamnak hill and the Bali Hai Pier. Alongside the Beach Road there is an excess supply of Jetski and speed boats. Due to this, there is much noise disturbance and pollution of the enviroment, especially in the water. The former Thai prime minister Taksin Shinawatra commissioned the construction of a new filtering plant, that resulted in an enormous improvement of water quality in the last couple of years
Yesterday in the afternoon a storm passed through our area, lightning struck and thunder boomed and of course it rained, sideways at times. It was heavy rain for maybe 20 minutes and then drizzled for another few hours after that. The drizzly rain didn’t look like it was going to stop, so me being the brave one asked what everyone wanted to eat.

A major event is being planned for this weekend in front of Central World at the Ratchaprasong Intersection. This is the heart of the shopping district in Bangkok and many of the traders here were hard hit during the recent red shirt protests. The most affected, of course, were the shops in the ZEN department store which were completely destroyed in a fire

Last night, on the evening of 7th April 2010, the Prime Minister of Thailand declared a State of Emergency for Bangkok and certain districts in surrounding provinces. Although this in itself may sound scary, it in no way means that Bangkok has suddenly become dangerous. Life goes on as normal for most people.
