Always Check Immigration Stamps in your Passport

Suvarnabhumi Airport, outside of Bangkok, has received a lot of criticism over the years. Of late, the complaint has been about the long queues at Immigration. Most of the complaints have been from outbound passengers, but inbound have also complained about grumpy and slow staff.

Uncle Beer Visits Nong Ja, Isaan Thailand.

The other day, Nong Ja’s uncle came to visit us for a few hours. Beer is a funny little guy and sadly I don’t get to see a lot of him.

But I didn't know that it was a big holiday here - May Day and Liberation of the South Day. So I couldn't grt a "soft sleeper" and had to make do with a "hard sleeper". It doesn't sound too promising does it

Songkran 2011 is More than Just Water Fights

Songkran Water Fights at Ancient Siam in Samut Prakan It is nearly time for the most popular Thai Festival, Songkran 2011 , which takes place all over Thailand in mid April every year. This is the traditional Thai new year which is the most enjoyable of all festivals both for Thai people and foreign tourists. Songkran is widely known as the water festival as people have lots of fun splashing water over each other during the three day festival. However, Songkran is more than just waterfights

5 More Bangkok Day Trips for Kids

Safari World and Marine Park This is the continuation of my Bangkok Day Trips for Kids . Probably the most popular open zoo and theme park close to Bangkok is Safari World and Marine Park on the northern outskirts of Bangkok.

Some of Australia’s Scumbags Jailed, Not Long Enough.

I like reading newspapers, especially from back home to keep up with what is going on back there, but also many times I am disgusted at what I read. I keep forgetting that Australia even though we are meant to be an amazing country to live (is true) can have so many absolute pieces of shit living in it. And another thing that really disgusts me is how useless the government run departments are back home. Here in Thailand it would not surprise me as it is just expected that government departments are useless and full of people who are skimming the cream off the top, under the table payments and the worst just not caring about their duty at hand (not all for sure but most is my opinion).

5 Bangkok Day Trips for Kids

Sriracha Tiger Zoo in Chonburi Province These are some ideas for day trips around Bangkok that are good for young children or teenagers. I think the most popular one for Nong Grace was the Sriracha Tiger Zoo in Chonburi.  She keeps asking to go back here every year. She likes feeding milk to the tiger cubs and also posing for photographs with the cubs and baby crocodiles.

The Bangkok Chinatown Scam

Chinatown is one of the most fascinating areas of Bangkok to explore on foot. I was there last weekend for a brief look as I intend to write more about this area in the future. I walked a loop up and down two of the main roads through Chinatown which are Yaowarat Road and Charoen Krung Road (see map of my walk ).

Bang Nok Kwaek 100 Year Market

After the success of Amphawa Floating Market in Samut Songkhram, other communities in the area decided to try their hand at a weekend market. One such example is Bang Nok Kwaek Market which is alongside the Mae Klong River north of Amphawa [ MAP ]. The buildings and market here are actually over one hundred years old, but after the roads were built and less people travelled by boat, the market was practically abandoned.

Where to Go on Children’s Day 2011

The annual National Children’s Day for Thailand takes place on the second Saturday of January every year. Children are considered as the most valuable resource of the country.

New Year Merit Making 2011

Happy New Year 2011! I hope everyone had fun celebrating last night and managed to get safely back home. This time of year is really dangerous on the roads and I prefer to stay at home rather than travel to other provinces. Too many drunk drivers out there

Ayutthaya Klong Sa Bua Floating Market

I have been to Ayutthaya a number of times. Sometimes by myself and sometimes taking friends. Every time, I go to the same old places; temples, ruins and a museum. It is an historical city and very different to other holiday destinations such as Pattaya and Chiang Mai.

Alms Giving for H.M. The King

Today, people from all around the country are coming together to celebrate the 83rd birthday of H.M. The King. Many of them are wearing pink which is an auspicious colour believed to help make the King better. The Thai monarch has been in Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok for over a year now.

Pink Flowers and Weird Rocks

Blog about August, some time ago. What’s on during August? Pink flowers season they say.

Tak Bat Thewo Festival

One of the most beautiful festivals in Thailand is Tak Bat Thewo which takes places on the last day of the three month Buddhist Rains Retreat. This event, in Uthai Thani, has started to become popular over the last few years and I was really glad to be able to go for myself this year during the full moon in October. It was certainly a beautiful sight watching about 500 monks descend the steps from Khao Sakae Krang. According to legend, the Lord Buddha once went up to Tavatimsa heaven during the three month Rains Retreat to preach to his departed mother.
