The annual National Children’s Day for Thailand took place today. Children are considered as the most valuable resource of the country. There is a Thai saying that goes, “Children are the future of the nation, if the children are intelligent, the country will be prosperous.” To help stimulate children to be aware of their significant role in the country, the National Children’s Day was held for the first time on the first Monday of October 1955 and continued like this until 1963. Watching Cartoons in Thailand.

Living in Thailand, I don’t get to watch TV shows I like on a regular basis, mostly because they are not provided on the cable TV provider I have. I am a sucker for American police dramas like CSI, NCIS, NYCSI and so forth, but also new shows like Dexter, Burn Notice just to name a few. Thankfully we live in an age with this amazing technology called the internet.

96th birthday anniversary of the Supreme Patriarch

Many activities will be held both in Bangkok and the provinces to celebrate the 8th cycle or the 96th birthday anniversary of His Holiness Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara, the Supreme Patriarch, from late September to the end of October 2009. The Supreme Patriarch will turn 96 on October 3.

A Report on Thailand’s Social Outlook

The Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board has issued a report on Thailand’s social outlook in the second quarter of 2009. The report, which was acknowledged by the Cabinet, covers four major areas, namely the quality of human resources, social security, people’s behavior and living conditions, and the environmental situation.

The Sage Trees in Bangkok General Post Office

This is the image of a young Mimusops Elengi tree in front of the Bangkok General Post Office. This tree is widely known as Spanish Cherry.In Thai it is called Phikun. The flower of the tree has long lasting fragrance, the garlands made of the small star like flowers last for years.

Scout Day Thailand 2009.

Earlier this month we had Scout Day at our school. Here a shrine or memorial is set up for the morning ceremony. Scouting was introduced to Thailand on July 1st, 1911 by King Rama VI , who is known as the father of scouting. On guard were our student soldiers, they are part time soldiers for three years and this then exempts them from national duty

National Scout Day in Samut Prakan

On July 1st, Scouts from schools all around the country took part in celebrations marking the anniversary of the foundation of Scouting in Thailand. In Samut Prakan, the governor, Mr. Kwanchai Wongnitikorn, and the head of the Education Area Office 1, Mr. Yongyuth Sapcharoen, presided over the ceremony at City Hall this morning.
