Educating Your Kids In Thailand.

Brunty in four years my wife, children and I will be moving to Ubon. The location we choose to live in will be directly related to schools for the kids. I have concerns about education plans for the kids.

Uncle Beer Visits Nong Ja, Isaan Thailand.

The other day, Nong Ja’s uncle came to visit us for a few hours. Beer is a funny little guy and sadly I don’t get to see a lot of him.

Slam Dunk Monk

Slam Dunk Monk
Part of this monkey's display of skills at the Krabi Snake Farm and Monkey School, near beautiful Ao Nang Beach, Thailand March 2011. This is a great show - must see for the kids both young and not so young.

Aslyum Seekers Burn Detention Centre, Australia.

Late last night here in Thailand a breaking news story from Australia was about a detention centre in Sydney that houses asylum seekers. It started out with two men on a roof, they were then joined by another eleven, and on the ground about one hundred had gathered. There are four hundred people in detention there

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Rhodes, Greece by TravelPod blogger Ryankevin titled "Rhodes - Carter's Top Pick" Ryankevin's travel blog entry: "We finally made it out of Turkey but getting the car on the ferry was quite the ordeal. We ended up having to drive the van up on a tow truck where they then backed up and dropped us down on the ferry. It turns out some other bigger boat parked in their spot so they had to call in a tow truck to get us on.

English Camp Fun with Spelling, Isaan Thailand.

Way back in January, it just seems so long ago now, we had a one day English camp at my new school. It was for primary 5 students, so ten or eleven year olds. When I was approached and asked what I would like to do for an activity, I had many ideas for games that involve using English to a degree. I can remember one of my first ever English camps many years ago, I had no idea what to do and was offered this advice from a Thai teacher, “Don’t worry about the English, just make it fun for the students.” And this seems to take precedence at many English camps I have been to but I my activities involve using English in some degree.

5 More Bangkok Day Trips for Kids

Safari World and Marine Park This is the continuation of my Bangkok Day Trips for Kids . Probably the most popular open zoo and theme park close to Bangkok is Safari World and Marine Park on the northern outskirts of Bangkok.

Some of Australia’s Scumbags Jailed, Not Long Enough.

I like reading newspapers, especially from back home to keep up with what is going on back there, but also many times I am disgusted at what I read. I keep forgetting that Australia even though we are meant to be an amazing country to live (is true) can have so many absolute pieces of shit living in it. And another thing that really disgusts me is how useless the government run departments are back home. Here in Thailand it would not surprise me as it is just expected that government departments are useless and full of people who are skimming the cream off the top, under the table payments and the worst just not caring about their duty at hand (not all for sure but most is my opinion).

A Move is as Good as a Holiday, Isaan Thailand.

If you have read this blog before you know that I teach in Thailand, for years I worked at a private school called Assumption College but recently shifted to a government run school. The differences aren’t a lot when you look at the academic side, the students are pretty well the same. There are students that are very competent in English, your middle of the road and then the students who understand next to nothing.

Exams, Cheating, Paperwork and No Time, Isaan Thailand.

I can truthfully say, thank bloody hell that the exams are over as of today and that means no kids until we return on the 26th of October. I do have to go on an English camp next week for three days, thankfully there are six of us foreign teachers going, so I will be able to relax in the evening with a few coldies and stories for sure. The last two days have been painful, well the first day of exams was excruciating you could say. On Wednesday I had to proctor or invigilate year 12 students (18 year olds)

Good Memories and Looking Forward to Holidays, Isaan Thailand.

Well it was a quiet weekend at home, well Noot, Ja and Ben all went out to the village to see their mum. I arrived home on Friday to find Miss Noot had rearranged the house, again. A few times a year Noot decides the house needs to have everything shifted around, and also a good spring clean

I Will Throw You Out The Window, Not a Good Thing to Say, Isaan Thailand.

Well today something out of the ordinary happened; this morning was going as per usual at school. I arrived early and started organising my day and then I had a couple of parents wanting to speak to me. In my primary class 1 class or 6 and 7 year olds, I have a handful of what Thais call Luk Krung or half foreigner, half Thai

Back to School, Will I Survive Isaan Thailand.

Well I am back at school, back to work sadly. This was the first year I really struggled to get motivated to go back to teaching. Even 1 week out before we started the term, I was seriously thinking of not going back.
