Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to watch a moving documentary called “Living With The Tiger”. It is about about Thai kids growing up with the stigma of being infected with HIV through no fault of their own. Often these kids are abandoned by their own family.

Here at this mountain temple in Southern Thailand, located near Hatyai in the province of Sungkla is a wonderful Monk that is well known for his skills in painting and meditation. I have known him for 12 years and keep going back to spend time with him. Here he is blessing the kids, they always love it to get water splashed on them. 
Well now that we have Nong Ja in what I call daycare but Thais call kindergarten. Thais have three levels of kindergarten but I consider three year olds to be in daycare.
The other day I was sitting in my office when an English teacher from primary 6 dropped in to see me. She has asked me to check some tests for her. Not tests she had compiled, but tests from NIETS (The National Institute of Educational Testing Service). Each year students in primary 6 and also secondary 9 and 12 have to do these national tests in a range of subjects

Late last night here in Thailand a breaking news story from Australia was about a detention centre in Sydney that houses asylum seekers. It started out with two men on a roof, they were then joined by another eleven, and on the ground about one hundred had gathered. There are four hundred people in detention there

We ended up having to drive the van up on a tow truck where they then backed up and dropped us down on the ferry. It turns out some other bigger boat parked in their spot so they had to call in a tow truck to get us on. 
Way back in January, it just seems so long ago now, we had a one day English camp at my new school. It was for primary 5 students, so ten or eleven year olds. When I was approached and asked what I would like to do for an activity, I had many ideas for games that involve using English to a degree. I can remember one of my first ever English camps many years ago, I had no idea what to do and was offered this advice from a Thai teacher, “Don’t worry about the English, just make it fun for the students.” And this seems to take precedence at many English camps I have been to but I my activities involve using English in some degree.
