The view from Phra Tamnak Hill is fantastic, taking in all the harbour and beach area and on the other side Jomtien and the islands off Pattaya. There is a radio station based at the summit, & you will find the usual Thai Temple also. The Statue or monument is of Kromluang Chomphonkhetudomsak, who is regarded as the founding father of the modern Thai navy.
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Ban Ko, Thailand by TravelPod blogger Leehorscraft titled "Koh Phi Phi Day 153 (20th Oct)" Leehorscraft's travel blog entry: "Today Steve and me got a wake up call from Sven at 10am to go snorkelling today. Steve and myself were pretty knackered after a late one last night, but managed to get out of our sand-filled beds, took a cold shower and headed to the pier point. From here we jumped on board a traditional long boat and headed out to Monkey Island, where there are a ridiculous amount of boats docking next to one another, what I found even more absurd was the fact people were snorkelling next to this gang of longtail boats with the propellers being quite close to some of the people. Also everyone jumped out the boat taking millions of pictures of the monkeys, they didn't seem to mind but it was rubbish.
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Surat Bay, New Zealand by TravelPod blogger Rich titled "Sea lions..." Rich's travel blog entry: "I could barely keep my eyes open on the bus to Christchurch after a mere 8 hours sleep in 2 days. When I wasn't nodding off and banging my head on the window, I was looking out at the scenery as we made our way down the centre of the South Island. Temperatures had recently plummetted, and the resulting snow could still be seen on the mountains that surrounded us. I eventually arrived in Christchurch at 3pm, so I had a few hours to do some chores before meeting Yumi.
In July 2010 I went with my friends Aod and Chai to visit Aod’s family in Roi Et province. On the 10 and 11 July they celebrated the Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival in the village of Ban Kang Pla (Nong Phai) which is on the road no 2043 a few km outside of Roi Et. On the first day they held a parade through the village with beautifully decorated floats, marching bands, and dancing groups
With my friends Chris and Phil we climbed up into a cave on Taiwan wall, then we descended into the darkness using bamboo ladders and headtorches, A couple of climbs on the other side to catch the best of the sunset - followed by a longtail ride back to Tonsai beach in time for a large pitcher of Chang each! or was it three?! Happy times.
One of the questions that we sometimes receive in our mailbox and over at the ThailandQA.com forums is this one: “How do Thai people celebrate their birthdays?” Well, they don’t often celebrate in the way that we do in the West. This often means no cake, no presents and no party for your friends if you are a child. Birthdays are not usually marked in the same way here as we did with birthday parties when we were younger.
