I have been going to write this blog for a few days now, but each time something happens and I end up writing about something else. Like my mate and his delusional hopes of making an AFL grand final and rabid dogs trying to attack me. But finally some spare time, and this is about Thai products that have English translations on them. The big international companies are no worries; they often have multiple languages on their products

The other day I was sitting in my office when an English teacher from primary 6 dropped in to see me. She has asked me to check some tests for her. Not tests she had compiled, but tests from NIETS (The National Institute of Educational Testing Service). Each year students in primary 6 and also secondary 9 and 12 have to do these national tests in a range of subjects

I returned home and found Noot’s mother was visiting and was outside euthanizing some frogs by whacking them on the head a few times and then skinning them and ripping their guts out. I missed these pictures sadly as I was a little slow changing. But this is what is left after skinned and washed, delicious Isaan frogs. I am not sure what these mushrooms are called, in Thai they are “เห็ดละโหว Het Lanaw” and are a very sweet and delicious mushroom

It has been a hard day again in Isaan Thailand. I was absolutely buggered early on this afternoon and had a two and a half hour kip. I have a heap of stuff to do and will be up until who knows what time, I will be lucky if I hit the sack before the sun comes up. I was awoken for dinner and it was good to.

It is the rainy season now in Thailand and most nights it rains but by morning it has stopped and at most a light drizzle with the occasional shower. But last night it rained and rained, it did ease off this morning a little but has been pelting down for a good 2 hours solid and doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon. Drainage is poor in Ubon Ratchathani, the roads flood easily even with a short 10 minute downpour, so the road is now covered in water and the moat that surrounds Thung Sri Muang Park is nearly overflowing.

The other weekend I travelled to Bangkok with a mate to watch Chelsea Football Club play a Thailand Premier League All Star team. I do not support Chelsea, I support Newcastle in the English Premier League, any sport across the world I support the team that is black and white the same color as my beloved Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League in Australia. The other guy I went with, who I call big brother (BB) or “Horse” used to support Manchester United but now he doesn’t really follow anyone but has travelled the world watching football. The other mate who was meant to come and is a lifelong Chelsea supporter, I mean he went to games before I was born.

Here in Ubon Ratchathani we have just had the Lenten Candle Festival, and if you look above this is the biggest and best candle that was on display, well it wasn’t but it was something different and Noot liked it. She took all the pictures that you will see in this post as I did not go. There are too many people for me and I get too frustrated

Here in Ubon Ratchathani we have the Lenten Candle Festival about to start. Each year at the start of the Buddhist Lent we have the largest parade of candle floats made by temples right down to small villages. It is Ubon’s busiest time of the year and the foreign population skyrockets and you can play spot the Thai instead of foreigner, okay there aren’t that many but there is a large influx of tourists. Below are pictures of my local temple’s candle float, the temple is about 400mtrs from my house.

Well dinner time tonight in Thailand was this, a good homemade spread made by Miss Noot. There was papaya salad Thai style with smelly fermented fish sauce and plenty of chilli and then there was papaya salad Thai or known as “Dum Thai” that is made with commercial made fish sauce. Some sundried beef from the market fried in olive oil, omelette, spicy pork roll salad, and some Thai sausages

Last night I was bored, well because I was home alone and no Nong Ja to play with and keep me occupied I decided to have a couple of beers and watch the Australian Rules Football. Next week is the Thai election, Thais will vote for one of the useless parties that are not worth a pinch of shit, but the Thais will return home to their villages and vote, plus get their money from each candidate. Vote buying is in your face and everybody knows about it.
