Bangkok Flood 2011? Bangkok still Dry

Where have all the farangs (caucasians) in my block gone? I asked the building management office below. She said they have all gone down south to the beach to escape the floods. There is only one farang left (not me, I am already more Thai than a foreigner)

The End For Now, Isaan Style.

To all the readers of Isaan Style, well the three or 4 people that sometimes drop by. I am happy to report that I will be taking a sabbatical for a while. I don’t know how long it will be and it could be forever we will just have to wait and see. To everyone who has commented over the past 5 years thank you and hopefully one day I will be back posting again.

Salil Shetty Amnesty International. You Are an Idiot!

I am sure this could upset a few people but I am sure many others will support my views. It is something that many don’t sit on the fence on.

Drew Noyes V Andrew Drummond, Great Reading. Thailand.

I have been having a lot of fun of late reading about a foreigner living in Pattaya, who seems to be a huge scam artist from what I have read the last few days. It all started when I was reading a website I really like called Pattaya Days .

Preparing for the great 2011 Bangkok Flood

I guess Thailand is one of the few places on Earth where one ponders how insurance can be claimed if one were to ram into a boat. It is indeed mystifying this situation. Thailand is also one of the few places on Earth right now that your friend calls you to bring him beer by boat should the flood sets in. Also, only here, we have live vest as part of household necessity items

Don’t Panic! 100 Friendly Crocodiles Escape Thailand.

I always get a very good laugh from reading the Thai newspapers. I am often left shaking my head at stories but always put it down to, “This is Thailand” or TIT. One such story was in today’s Bangkok Post , it’s a crap paper like the other English language newspaper The Nation but every now and then you get a gem of a story like this. The heading was, “ 100 Escaped Crocodiles ‘Not Fierce’”

My Other Love, Black Caviar.

I have to admit as I cannot tell a lie, I am in love with an amazing women and it isn’t Miss Noot or Nong Ja. I have written about her before on this blog so she really isn’t a secret.

Chilly Nights Have Arrived Isaan Thailand.

The weather has turned bloody cold here in north east Thailand, well it is cold. In the blink of an eye nights are crisp and the need for air-conditioning or even just a fan is not needed.

Feast for Dead Souls

The Vegetarian Festival has now reached its seventh day in Samut Prakan. Last night, many devotees went to the City Hall Plaza to float krathongs on the Chao Phraya River. This was done as a kind of invitiation to the dead souls to come to a feast on the following day. This is what happened today at Rong Jay Thong Siang in Taiban

Outrage Again at Thai Students for Their Ignorance.

Reading the papers online today and “ the big ” story is of some Thai students who dressed up in Nazi uniforms for their sports day. In Thailand, sport days are huge. They take precedence over academics, well actually everything else takes precedence over learning, competitions, dancing, watching some touts pitch a promotion for some company selling products laced full of sugar, but this is Thailand.

9 Gods Invited for the Vegetarian Festival

Yesterday marked the official start of the Vegetarian Festival in Thailand. In Samut Prakan it runs from 26th September to 6th October 2011. We went to Thong Siang Vegetarian House in Samut Prakan to watch this opening ceremony. The event was a signal for the nine Gods to come down to earth.

The annual Vegetarian Festival is about to start here in Thailand. It happens every year in the tenth Thai lunar month on the first new moon after the equinox. This year it is celebrated between 26th September and 5th October 2011

Ubon Ratchathani Floods 2011 Thailand.

I went for a ride to see how the floods were here in Ubon Ratchathani. Last weekend I went out and took a couple of pictures but this week I wanted to speak to some people.

One of the oldest markets in Thailand that is still operating is the Bang Phli Riverside Market in Samut Prakan. It was first started by Chinese traders back in the 1850′s. This now makes it older than 150 years
