Makha Bucha Day 2010

One of the most important events in the Thai Buddhist calendar is Makha Bucha Day (sometimes spelled Magha Puja). It takes place on the full moon day of the third lunar month which is usually late February or early March. This year it was today, 28th February 2010. Like many Thai people, I was up early this morning before the sun rose to go and visit my local temple.

They rescue elephants from hard working conditions and provide them with a happy, restful life here at Baan Chang. This morning we were giving them snacks of sugar cane and bananas (which don't need peeling) :) The baby elephants were intentionally dropping the sugar cane so we would have to give them more. It was adorable and cheeky. It was not long after this that we are lunch, and had time to chill out in hammocks. It was then that I decided it was a good idea to go over and hang with the elephants again and this happened: youtu.be Despite the way my day at Baan Chang ended, I still cherish the memories I made that morning with those elephants.
